Katy Schroeder

HAI Social Media Committee Co-Chair, Dr. Katy Schroeder, is an Assistant Professor in the cross disciplinary Companion Animal Science program in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University. Dr. Schroeder received her Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Counseling from Oregon State University, and is a National Certified Counselor with the NBCC and an LPC Intern with the State of Texas. She currently directs the Equine-Assisted Counseling and Wellness Lab located at the Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center, which serves as a research and teaching lab, as well as a community clinic. Her research agenda broadly explores human-animal interactions in therapeutic contexts, with a more targeted focus on outcome research for equine-assisted mental health (EAMH) interventions. Her experience in the human-animal interaction field is grounded in over 10 years of work as a PATH Intl. Therapeutic Riding Instructor, a PATH Intl. Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, and a clinical mental health counselor.
