Lisa Lunghofer, Executive Director of Making Good Work, has 20 years of experience working with public sector and nonprofit clients in the areas of child welfare, violence prevention, animal welfare and the human-animal bond. During the first 15 years of her career she led a variety of national evaluation projects for which she received grants from the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institute of Justice and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. In July 2008, she saw a story on the local news about a couple desperately searching for their dog who had gotten out of her crate at a nearby airport and had been lost for a week. She joined the search the next day, and the experience changed the course of her career.
Since then Lisa has served as a consultant to animal-related programs throughout the country, helping them to create strategic plans, develop logic models, write successful grant proposals, develop evaluation plans, craft marketing materials, and identify and track outcomes. Examples of her recent work include serving as the AniCare and Rapid Response Program Director for the Animals and Society Institute; evaluating the Canines with Careers program in which veterans who have PTSD train shelter dogs for various types of service; developing a comprehensive humane education initiative based on a public health model for the Pennsylvania SPCA; writing grant proposals to support Safe Humane Chicago programs that pair at-risk youth with at-risk dogs, providing both a second chance; and conducting a qualitative study of Forget Me Not Farm’s youth mentoring program in which youth who are aging out of foster care work with adult mentors at the Sonoma County Humane Society. Lisa volunteers with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and serves as president of the board of directors of the Maryland Court Appointed Special Advocate Association, which seeks to provide an advocate for every child in foster care who is under the protection of Maryland courts. She currently is a cochair of the National Coalition on Violence Against Animals.
